A Film by Jesse Docena
I completed this short film for a midterm in one of my ethnic study courses. The class, Asians in America is instructed by Professor Grace Yoo. The purpose of my film was to give a quick glimpse into Filipino history and culture through a interview with Michael Dalupo. Mr. Dalupo is an up and coming entrepreneur and is the current CEO of Know Your Roots Apparel -

Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino
Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino
A Filipino Senator who opposed President Marcos "Martial Law" and fought for democracy in the Philippines. He was jailed and later on exiled to the U.S. due to his health. He return to the Philippines even when he knew that there was a plot to kill him. Returning to the Philippines, he was quoted "The Filipino is worth dying for". When he finally returned, he was shot down by a gunman from behind and he died right on the tarmac of the Manila International Airpot, which is now know as Ninoy Aquino International Airport in his honor. This incident outraged the public and sparked a revolution which is called "Peoples Power" led by his wife Corazon Aquino. The Peoples Power Revolution drove Marcos into exile and placed Cory Aquino in the seat of power.
There's more to read about this extraordinary men and his pursuit of democracy. Please take the time to research the name Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino.
